This year we embark on a very exciting journey as all the skills the students learn in the performing arts will be presented to a paying audience in November/December. Our show this year written by our Director is called – Believe. The venue will be The Star Theatre, Peel Street, Manly. A booklet containing some of the show work for BELIEVE will be given to all students. This booklet is to be brought to class each week. If the booklet is lost a new one can be bought for $2. Please make sure a document wallet with the booklet inside is brought to every lesson.
Breakdown of costs and commitments and costumes:
Costumes are plain theatre blacks bought from Kmart or Best N Less. Lead costumes are provided. Simple costumes and props are provided by LTK. The costs for the show year are divided into the four terms fees. An extra $15 a term will cover – your child’s trophy, professional photography (given a code to access individual and group photos) and lighting/sound/theatre hire levy.
In term 1 week 5/6 we will be holding auditions in class for the lead characters. Only children wanting a lead part need to audition. They will need to attend an extra rehearsal in term 3 where they will meet other students from other schools and have professional photos. Audition material will be handed out in week 2/3.
In term 2 all children and parents will be asked to sign a performance contract. The contracts will clarify the date and require you to commit to the show and continue with classes. As you can imagine we need a committed cast for the productions to be successful.
This is a show experience like no other. The skills children learn being part of a semi-professional production is incredibly valuable. Presenting the same show 10 times allows us to have great costumes, effects like smoke machines and geysers and lasers. My teachers will be constructing sets and working hard towards creating a fabulous well presented 30 minute show. The children will not have extra rehearsals. You simply drop your children to us a couple of hours earlier to rehearse on the stage with lighting and sound equipment. Your child is also photographed before and during the rehearsal and performance process. All children are presented at the end of the show with a trophy honouring their strength in Drama. At each school two students will be awarded best actor or actress of 2019. (Yes it is like the Oscars! and no it is not age dependent but ability and talent that allows us to identify the appropriate candidate).
Believe has been written by Melissa Webster and involves the whole class. Every child will be on the stage throughout the show. Melissa believes strongly in every child being on the stage for a lengthy period of time – hence the delivery of 10 shows instead of one big show that goes for 4 hours with each child performing once for 3 minutes. LTK over their two decades of productions have the show process down to a fine art.
